One of our favorite legends here at the hotel has always been Mark Twain. He was born on November 30, 1835 in a place called Missouri, Florida. To celebrate his birthday, we wanted to post some very rare film footage of Twain that was shot in 1909 by his good friend Thomas Edison. Enjoy!

Teen-age Idol Hunt is the headline from the October 11, 1956 edition of the local newspaper. Rumors that Elvis was staying at the hotel (Room #311) caused quite a stir.
IT STARTED WITH A WHEELBARROW...JOHN STUDEBAKER - Building an Empire
John Studebaker made his first real money building wheelbarrows and then he and his brothers built an empire. It's Wheelbarrow Johnnie's birthday on October 10th (1833). He's a true legend here at the hotel because back in 1857 he helped to carry the bricks to build the original Cary House.
